Obituary for Dorman Dale King

Dorman “Dale” King
December 10, 1933 – July 4, 2022

Dorman Dale King - 88 of Godley Texas, went home to be with Jesus our Lord and Savior July 4, 2022.

Dale was born in Aledo, Texas. He was the second of three sons born to Elmer & Virginia Spain King. After graduating from Aledo High School, Dale attended Weatherford Business College pursuing engineering. In June of 1954 he married his beautiful young sweetheart and the love of his life, Darlene Dobbs King. Together they raised 5 children in a loving Christian home.

Dale loved to play softball and pitched for the Aledo Outsiders. Here he began developing his unique pitching style. He continued to play for Weatherford College and then went on to play in a Fort Worth League on a team for General Dynamics, where he was working at the time. During these years he earned the nicknames of “Diamond T” and “Hawkeye”. To some, these names remained with him for life.

In 1959 Dale bought an auto parts and supply business with delivery routes to garages and service stations. In 1963 He and his brothers, Raymond and Wayne, started 3K Auto Supply in Downtown Fort Worth with delivery trucks serving Fort Worth and surrounding towns. The Dale King family moved to Godley in 1967. Around 1973 when most service stations with mechanics on duty became self-service gas stations, their parts business was greatly affected and 3K Auto Supply took on a new direction. Metro Golf Carts in Fort Worth was their new endeavor, under the direction of his brother Wayne. Metro Golf Carts served area country clubs and private residence.

Since 1967 Dale and Darlene lived in Godley Texas where they raised their 5 children – Vicki, Dalene, Julie, Bryon and Donna. This was home. A home where he could raise cattle and horses for pleasure. Home where many wonderful memories were made, sharing fun times with family and friends.

In 1983, Dale opened Lake Country Golf Carts in Granbury, which was closer to his home and most of his customers. He operated from this location until 2000 when he thought he might be ready to retire. He sold his business in Granbury but continued to work from a shop in Godley until dementia took so much of his memory that he could no longer reassemble a motor.

Though this disease took much away from his life, it never took his peaceful nature, his love for his family and friends or his whit until the very end. He was known as a “gentleman and a sweet man” by his caregivers. He was a generous hard-working man who loved The Lord and was anticipating His return. Meanwhile, when asked “How are you doing?” he would always reply, “Better than I deserve!”

Dale lived the rest of his days at his home in Godley until he passed into the arms of Jesus. There he joined his beautiful bride Darlene and two grandchildren Ryan Langford and Kate Langford as well as his parents, brothers and numerous others who went before.

He is survived by his 5 children, 3 sons-in-law, a daughter in law, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Our family would like to give a special thank you to Community Hospice for their care and support during the final months of our Dads life.
