Obituary

SAGINAW - Elmer "Richard" DuPree, 85, passed away in the comfort of his daughter Valenia's home in Saginaw, Texas surrounded by his daughters on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019.

Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 at Church Angels Funeral Home.

Richard loved sports, especially auto racing, where his all-time favorite race to attend and watch on TV was the Indy 500. He worked various jobs as a salesman, and retired as a Master Electrician from the Arlington, Texas General Motors assembly plant. He could fix just about anything and even knew how to sew some. He spent some of his free time retirement raising a longhorn steer on his ranch prior to selling it, and watched various sports games live and on TV. He also enjoyed boating and volunteered with the Reserve Coast Guard for a short time. Richard was always there to help relatives and friends and was the primary caretaker for his wife Jerry until he could no longer do so due to his health.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer DuPree and Ellen Sue (Smith) Hampton; former wife, Gloria Joan Minor; son, Robert Steven DuPree; daughter, Yvonne Carol Stelcz; step-sons, Gerry, Robert and Curtis Norman; step-daughter, Roxanne Norman; and granddaughter, Melisha Arrambidez.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jerlene "Jerry"; daughters, Chere DuPree, Lisa Coursey, and Valenia Gill; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Scott; grandchildren, Jessica, Maria, Robert Steven, Jr., Tanya, Gregory, Phillip, Cso, Kristen, Jessica, Levi, Josh, Jerrad, Michael, Christal, James, Christina, Sean and Curtis "Lee"; many loving great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Richard was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.

We lived by Mr Dupree in Tyler 2016-2018. He was such a friendly and helpful neighbor. The kids loved to ride bikes over to his house and he loved to sit in his garage and watch the kids jump on the trampoline or make a slip and slide. My husband would talk about airplanes and boats for hours with Mr Dupree and took him flying a few times. We appreciated all the kindness that the Dupreeā€™s showed us! Mr Dupree will be missed!
