Obituary for Eva Van Scoit

Eva Van Scoit Obituary:
Eva Van Scoit gave all of herself, to everyone, until the age of 89 when she passed on June 16th, 2022.

She showed her love in the tireless service of others, whether as the eldest of siblings growing up in Michoacán.
Or in the nurturing of her own family: her husband Julio; her children Martha, Julio, and Victor; and her grandchildren Kevin, Daniel, Julio, Isabel, Anthony, and Michael.

Her pride for her family was never in short supply.

She’d tell a table of strangers at Applebee’s her life story and the family’s accolades.

Strangers to us. New friends to her.

Eva cut and sewed clothing for all her kid’s projects. Made-to-measure mothering.

She was at every performance. Every recital. Every academic function.

Her child could scan the audience. She’d catch their eyes—and wave.

“She’s here.”

They’d smile, feel seen, and a little less alone.

Her home was open to all.

To Eva, you were family coming home for a welcome visit.

A tequila would immediately be offered, and any of her delicious cooking.

She’d make a meal for five transform into a dinner for eight.

There was plenty of food for everyone—including the stray kittens she often doted on.

Eva traveled with her husband and family, and a knack for the cosmopolitan.

She experienced the world like Paddington Bear, affable and with zest.

Having adventures that left anyone that crossed her path with an indelible story as a memento.

A sense of self emboldened by the respect of peers with whom she worked beside.

Eva left many in awe of her energy to celebrate—good luck keeping up.

First to the dance floor, and the last to leave it.

And an undeniable love of joining in song, especially when mariachis sang.

Because hers was a voice that sang true, and lived those lyrics.

In lieu of flowers for Eva,

Feed a few stray kittens,

Make enough food for extra faces at your table,

Dance a little longer at the next party,

Or sip on tequila while telling a familiar story.
