Obituary for Joe Jesko, PhD.

Arlon Joe Jesko, Ph.D., 75, on March 26, 2022, went home to his heavenly Father. By his side was Terri, his wife of 53 ½ years, as loved ones surrounded him.

Joe was born and raised in Clovis, NM and graduated in 1964 from Clovis HS. In 1968 he received a BA degree in Psychology and Religion from Wayland Baptist University. After graduation he married his college sweetheart, Terri Brown, moved to the metroplex and in 1970 settled in Arlington, their home for the last 52 years. In 1972 Joe completed two master’s degrees, a MRE from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a MSSW from the University of Texas at Arlington. Continuing his education, Joe received a PhD in Clinical Social Work from UTA in 1992.

While attending graduate school, Joe volunteered at Big Brothers of Ft. Worth and in 1970 opened the Arlington satellite office eventually becoming the Executive Director of Tarrant County and Arlington Big Brothers. In 1979 he began a private practice in Marriage and Family Counseling, later transitioning to behavioral health services for businesses and industry. After selling his company, Jesko Associates Inc., in 1996, he began consulting for various corporations. Retiring in 2000, Joe continued consulting on a part-time basis.

Joe and Terri have been members of Lamar Baptist Church for 36 years. Joe served as a deacon, volunteered on various committees, and taught Adult Sunday School for many of those years. A gifted and talented Bible teacher, Joe was a faithful member of Bible Study Fellowship for over 30 years, serving as a Discussion Leader, Substitute Teaching Leader and on the Administrative Team.

Joe was a faithful supporter of his alma mater. Recognizing his numerous years of service as a trustee at Wayland Baptist University, he received the honor of Board Member Emeritus. Joe also enjoyed serving his community. He was elected to the Arlington ISD School Board in the early ’80s and volunteered for various local organizations including Mission Arlington.

Fly fishing on a mountain stream, summering at “Still Waters”, his Lake City, CO cabin, golfing with friends, supporting his nieces and nephews at sporting events and activities, as well as his love for a good snow cone were his favorite pastimes.

Family and friends remember Joe as an encourager through frequent correspondence, phone calls and visits. He was a trusted friend, loyal confident, honored son and loving husband, brother, and uncle.

We mourn his departure from our lives but rejoice in his passing to a glorious eternal life with Jesus Christ.
