JONATHAN G. HANKINS, JR.

On July 29, 2022, Jonathan G. Hankins, Jr. passed away peacefully in a Fort Worth, Texas, Hospice Facility at the age of 87. He was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, on February 11, 1935, to Jack and Bertha Hankins, both of whom predeceased him in 1995 (Jack) and in 1983 (Bertha).

As a member of both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Jonathan earned numerous awards and Merit Badges to include the Rifle Shooting, Marksmanship and Photography Merit Badges.

After graduating from Lawton High School, he completed his Associate of Arts degree from Cameron State College in 1956 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma in 1958. While at OU, he was a member of ROTC and the Rifle Team. John then continued his participation as a Rifle Marksman for the United States Army. Throughout his academic career he remained active in photography.

Jonathan retired from a distinguished career with the Department of the Navy as a civil service mathematician/scientist and earned recognition for developing high quality gravity and geodesy data for Navigation and Fire Control subsystems for the Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile and the Ocean Survey Programs.

He was proud to be a member of MENSA and of being a Numismatist.

John and his wife, Bobbie, retired to Long Beach, MS, and then moved to Fort Worth, TX, in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home in MS. John then became a devoted caregiver to Bobbie who passed away in 2015. Their son, Jonathan Gladstone Hankins, III died in Long Beach in 1997.

Survivors include his sister, Kjaeren Rutland of Colorado Springs, CO; several cousins including Susan (Hankins) Ellington of Santa Fe, NM; and sister-in-law, Linda Huber of Winnsboro, LA.

John and Bobbie would appreciate any donations in their names to their favorite charities; any Veteran, Women's Shelter or Dog Rescue programs.

Per his request, there will be no services. John's cremains will be interred at Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Texas with the remains of his parents.
