Obituary for Powell Nathaniel Thompson

Powell Nathaniel Thompson

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die…”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Powell Nathaniel Thompson was born to Bartholomew and Juanita Thompson, in Stillwater, OK, on October 9, 1954. Powell was named after Dr. Powell E. Fry, the family doctor and beloved friend.

He graduated from C.E. Donart High School, Stillwater, OK in 1972. Powell continued his education at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. The direction of his plans changed when he met and married Michelle Love in 1974. This union was blessed with four daughters: Dana, Deana, Danelle and Denise. The marriage was dissolved in 1988. His heart was full of love again when he met and married the former Pat A. Ramsey in March 1990. Powell’s passion for family led them to blend their family to include Pat’s son and daughter, Sterling and DeShawn.

Powell accepted Christ as his personal Savior and served at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, during his youth. Christian Ministry was important to him and he continued to serve the Lord after High School graduation. He was a Deacon at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, employed by The Osborn Ministry and a volunteer in the media ministry at Faith Christian Fellowship. He had a love, gift and passion for music and was a vocalist with The Oklahoma City Cavaliers, and vocalist/lead singer at Northside C.O.G.I.C., Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, Sunshine Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel Prince Baptist Church, Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and Focus Faith Baptist Church. He and Pat were the founders of their Gospel Groups: Angels of Faith and Creative Touch. They travelled to many churches singing and praising God.

He had a strong work ethic and diverse background. Powell was blessed with a wonderful career as a Stock Clerk, Shop Steward and Crew Chief, at American Airlines, for 30 years.

Powell fought a courageous battle, while dealing with health issues. He continued to serve God with his wife, Pat. Powell Nathaniel Thompson finished his course and transitioned from his Earthly Vessel to Eternal Rest on March 4, 2021, with his wife at his side. We will miss his physical presence but will find comfort in knowing he is present with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He leaves to cherish his legacy and memory his beloved and devoted wife of over 30 years, Pat A. Thompson, Children: Sterling Ramsey (Rue), Daughters: DeShawn McGhee, Dana Smith (Leron), Deana Thompson, Danelle Thompson and Denise Christian (Kelly, Sr.), Brother: Caleb Lynn Thompson (Brenda), Sisters-in-Love: Dee Young, Patrie Jones, Doris Ann Pete and Rubye Billingsley (Tyrance), Brothers-in-love: Charles Pearson, James Halley, Jr., Willie D.
