Obituary for Theresa L Hawkes

How it began… Theresa Louise Hawkes was born September 28, 1960 in Johnson County to Bernard Paul and Mary McDonough. She served 4 years in the USAF from 1978 to 1982 and eventually found her soul-mate, Vince Hawkes, marrying on July 29th 2008. She passed away with a strength and poise that she lived her life with her husband, daughter, and sister by her side.

Theresa enjoyed fishing with her husband, even though he hooked her in the back (she’s was quite the catch), playing games with everyone (as long as she won) and laughing daily. She loved her family, fishing, dancing, and music.
Theresa taught us that strength can be measured, not in how much you can lift, but how you can endure pain and still find a reason to laugh. Passionately and bravely living life to the fullest against all adversity.
Towards the end, she still found a reason to laugh, but it was a little softer. Her body was giving up but her mind was still strong; demanding to know the names of any medicine prior to being administered.
Her daughter, Kimberly, was able to stay and see her off to the next phase. Gently caring for the woman who brought her into this world. Patently making her comfortable when her mom could no longer lift her hand to get a drink of water.
Vince’s strength in bearing witness to his wife, his love, getting weaker each day… His commitment to making her as comfortable as possible. She was his passion and he loved her unconditionally through her final hours. She was a loving wife and, friend, and soul-mate to him.

Theresa is survived by her husband, Vince Hawkes, her daughter, Kimberly Castillo, Nikki (her beloved dog)and many siblings, nieces and nephews as well as many good friends.
