Obituary for William Meier

William J. Meier Jr.

May 24, 1949 - July 23, 2022

After a courageous battle with heart failure, Bill passed away at home peacefully in his sleep. To the end Bill maintained a positive attitude and held his faith in God's hands.

After graduating from high school, Bill attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Once completing a four year program with the Air Force ROTC, Bill was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USAF. He received his first orders for pilot training at Vance AFB in 1971. Bill served our country for eight years, an experience that took him all over the world and one he honored and cherished.

Bill began his career with American Airlines in 1979 as a First Officer, quickly working his way up to Captain status. After 911, Bill enrolled in the grueling training course to become a Federal Flight Deck Officer.

In 2005, Bill took early retirement from AAL to build the dream lake cabin he and his wife Donna designed in Twin Lakes Upper Peninsula, Mi. Many wonderful memories were made there with family and friends.

Bill was very active in the community, serving as a volunteer fireman for TLFD. Along with his wife, Bill also served in the Civil Air Patrol as a mission pilot and check airman as well as coordinating search and rescues.

Bill dearly loved his family. He especially adored being Big Papa and spending time with the Grandkids. Bill’s other passions included golfing, flying, reading, history and traveling with his wife.

Preceded in death by his parents, William Meier Sr. and Nona Meier; daughter Kelly and sister Vicki.

Bill leaves behind his loving wife Donna; son William J Meier III; stepchildren Dana and Bryan; grandchildren Katie, Sam and Dane; sister Linda; nieces and nephews; cousins and many close friends.

Fly high with your new wings, we all feel comfort knowing you are our special guardian angel watching over us. Your presence is so very missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warriors or a charity of your choice.
