Obituary for William Albert Zimmerman

William Albert “Bill” Zimmerman, 74, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed peacefully in his sleep on May 24, 2022, at his home in Mansfield, Texas. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born November 5, 1947, in Frederick, Maryland to the late William A. and Viola E. Zimmerman. He was the oldest of 4 children. He was a Christian.

He served in the United States Navy for 22 years. During that time, he met his beloved wife, Karen Johnson. They were married on August 12, 1972, in Williamsport, Maryland. They lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and started their family there. In 1988, he was transferred to Texas, where he later retired from the Navy in 1990. His career in the Navy introduced him to electronics and his favorite hobby, video games. He was an original gamer, and he shared this hobby with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Karen Johnson Zimmerman, Mansfield, Texas; and their three children Erik Zimmerman of Mansfield, Texas; Jennifer Rincon and husband Robert Rincon of Alvarado, Texas, and Natalie Bernard and husband Kevin Bernard of Fort Worth, Texas; two siblings: Gwen Williams of Frederick, Maryland and Eddie Zimmerman of Frederick Maryland; seven grandchildren: Sarah Zimmerman of Hutto, Texas; Brandon Rincon of Mansfield, Texas; Steven Rincon and Kaelie Rincon, both of Alvarado, Texas; Mark Crawford, Oliver Bernard, and Sawyer Bernard all of Fort Worth, Texas, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Zimmerman.

He enjoyed watching a great western, playing video games with his grandkids, and watching British TV shows with his wife. On occasion, he would watch the movie “Tremors” to get a rise out of her. He was a big jokester and had an amazing sense of humor. He will be missed dearly.

The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately after the service at 1001 Remington Ranch Road, Mansfield, Texas 76063.
